Gutierrez Calls on International Community to Shine Spotlight on Human Rights Travesty in Cuba

Washington (May 7)—At a meeting of the Council of the Americas at the State Department, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez called on the international community to stand in solidarity with Cuba’s political prisoners on May 21st. He said, “Freedom cannot be kept away from people forever. We’ve seen that throughout the course of history. We saw that in the Soviet Union. Nobody ever imagined that the Soviet Union would fall. It’s just a matter of time before freedom arrives once again in Cuba.” (Transcript)
